Murphy Oil Chairman William Nolan Dies
Murphy Oil announced today (March 13) that William C. Nolan, Jr., chairman of the board of directors died yesterday.
Nolan passed away at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado following a brief illness at the age of 72.
Nolan received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1961, and his law degree from Yale Law School in 1964. After graduation he worked in Murphy Oil’s legal department until 1969 when he left to found the Nolan and Alderson Law Firm. He was also president of Noalmark Broadcasting Corporation which owns radio stations in Arkansas and New Mexico.
Nolan had been a Murphy Oil director since 1977 and served as Chairman since July 15, 2002.
Late last year, Murphy Oil announced that Nolan would retire as chairman on May 1, 2012 and be succeeded by former CEO Claiborne Deming.
