Thursday Night Poll Pits Griffin Versus Halter

Somebody or some group is gauging a Second Congressional District match-up between Rep. Tim Griffin (R) and former Lt. Governor Bill Halter (D), who challenged Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) in the 2010 U.S. Senate race.

On Thursday night, a poll from nationally-known Public Policy Polling (PPP) asked questions about a head-to-head match-up between the two men, according to our sources and several messages on Twitter.

The poll also asked questions about Griffin’s job approval, favorable/unfavorable ratings, Congressional approval, lottery scholarships, and a President Obama versus Mitt Romney match-up.

Democratic-leaning PPP is quick to publicize its state-specific polling, but they didn’t in this case, which leads many to believe this survey was taken for a potential candidate or an organization.

Political observers speculate it could be a Halter internal poll to gauge the possibility of a Second District run. It could also have been conducted on behalf of the Daily Kos, a liberal blog that supported Halter’s Lincoln challenge two years ago.
