Former Alltel CEO Scott Ford is helping historically black college, Arkansas Baptist, launch a business incubator aimed at improving the community.

On Monday, Little Rock-based Arkansas Baptist College announced the Scott Ford Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development “to develop a trained corps of entrepreneurs prepared to start businesses in underserved communities.”

The new Scott Ford Center will house a micro-lending program to provide small business loans to individuals who might not qualify for traditional financing. The loans are expected to be in the $50 to $5,000 range.

“The micro-lending program will be a core program we offer through the Scott Ford Center,” said Arkansas Baptist President Fitz Hill. “Borrowers will find complete support not only to meet their business needs but they also will be able to draw on the expertise of our advisory council in developing a strategy for their businesses.”
