J.B. Hunt Puts Safety First

Here’s hoping all you Whispers readers out there enjoyed a safe New Year’s Eve.

In fact, we wish we would’ve found this sobering news from Consumer Reports in time to publish it prior to the holiday:

“The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has just released a new study that looked at the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s data on alcohol-related fatalities for 2000-2009. It found that on New Year’s Day, alcohol-related deaths due to crashes were 150 percent higher than average for the same day of the week during the holiday season.”

That’s scary stuff, for sure, and one of the reasons we were impressed by what we heard from an employee at J.B. Hunt Transport Services in Lowell. The employee told us the trucking firm puts its entire fleet on hold from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, due to the increased number of merrymakers on our nation’s highways.
