Pumpkins, ghouls and goblins are set to make a mint for many deserving souls.
At a reception held last month at the offices of Cameron Smith & Associates, company president Cameron Smith announced the First Annual Spooktacular Costume Prowl, which will take place Oct. 31 at The Pinnacle Hills Promenade Mall in Rogers. Smith anticipates 2,000 costumed children, couples and company representatives will attend the all-volunteer fundraiser.
At 2 p.m., the mall’s interior streets will make room for a “Costume Prowl,” with participants vying for prizes in multiple costume categories. Even pets have a chance at winning.
Signing up for the day’s costume events in advance means cutting costs. Early-bird rates range from $10 for individuals to $40 for groups; that will increase to $15 and $50 on Halloween.
Trick-or-treating throughout the mall will run from 4-6 p.m. Face-painting and pumpkin-carving, shadowed by street entertainers, is also scheduled.
Preferring a business approach to raising funds in a region where there is much competition, Smith spoke of his interest in creating a sustainable event. David Faulkner, general manager of the Promenade, said his group has been hosting trick-or-treat sessions since opening in 2006, and is proud to be a part of this new effort.
“The mall wants to be seen as a town square, as the heart of the community,” he said.
