"On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. Since then Social Security has been a cornerstone of our nation and helped Americans who otherwise may not have had an income at all stay out of dire poverty in their retirement years.

Join us Saturday, August 14 at 1 p.m. on the beautiful UA Fort Smith campus at the Echols Conference Center for a free Center for Lifelong Learning Informational Session. At the session you will meet our Center for Lifelong Learning staff, learn about our Center for Lifelong Learning fall classes and events, receive a Fall 2010 schedule of classes, celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the Social Security Administration Act, and ear yummy Bluebell Ice Cream sandwiches.

After 75 years, Social Security has touched the lived of almost every American at one time or another and continues to make a different today for one in six Americans. There will also be a Q & A session with Mike Lyons, Director of the Social Security Administration.
