An estimated 375 cowboys, cowgirls, and even princesses came to ride in the grand entry of the 77th annual Old Fort Days Rodeo which began Monday (May 31) at Harper Stadium at Kay Rodgers Park.
Opening night of the rodeo drew attendance of approximately 5,000.
The Old Fort Days Dandies led the way into the arena followed by a parade of cowboys and cowgirls. The grand entry took about 25 minutes with the rodeo portion starting at approximately 7:30 p.m..
The Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association-sanctioned event features cowboys competing in bull riding, bareback, saddle bronc, calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. Events for the cowgirls included competitive barrel racing. All contestants are trying to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo scheduled Dec. 2-11 in Las Vegas.
The rodeo will run from May 31 through June 5. Grand entry each night is at 7 p.m. with the rodeo immediately following. Tickets are $10 reserved and $8 general admission. Special nights for the family are Tuesday and Wednesday nights with $5 tickets. Saturday night tickets are $12 reserved and $10 general admission.
