Springdale Gets ?Green Soldiers?

Officials say Springdale is the last of the ‘big four towns’ in Northwest Arkansas to make the switch to a rollout cart system. 

Waste Management began distributing 96-gallon poly carts and 18 gallon recycling bins to households throughout the city May 10, and expected to complete its drop-off efforts by May 28. The program is scheduled to become effective June 1.

Waste Management will be unlikely to pick up trash that isn’t contained in its carts once the program goes into effect, though leeway may be shown if a household has extra bags unable to fit into the new containers.

Kevin Gardner, senior district manager at Waste Management of Arkansas Inc., sees this as a progressive step in the right direction.   

 “We believe in recycling, and anything we can do to prevent stuff from going into a landfill,” Gardner said.” People are definitely more receptive to this now than in the past.”
