The “key accomplishments” for the city of Fort Smith during 2009 ranged from landing the $100 million Mitsubishi plant to the launch of televised board meetings to securing voter approval for another $30 million project to improve the city’s wet weather sewer system.

Ray Gosack, deputy city administrator, outlined 37 key accomplishments in a Dec. 31 memo to City Administrator Dennis Kelly.

“Although we experienced economic uncertainties from the national recession, the city government has many accomplishments in its service to the citizens and businesses of Fort Smith,” Gosack wrote.

Gosack’s list also included the creation of the Regional Intermodal Transportation Authority (created through approval by Crawford and Sebastian county officials and the Fort Smith and Van Buren boards), approving a new contract for recycling services that increases the amount of material being recycled and lowers annual costs by $160,000, and creating a homeless task force.
