Arkansas auto group chief talks of a bright future
In a recent television interview by Roby Brock, Dennis Jungmeyer, head of the Arkansas Auto Dealers Association, explains what happens when auto manufacturers sever their relationships with local dealers. He also predicts what will ultimately happen once the current cycle of closure and consolidation concludes.
The interview with Brock — our content partner at TalkBusiness.net — followed the news that eight Chrysler dealerships in Arkansas were among the almost 800 nationwide the company will close. Breeden Dodge in Fort Smith, Blue Ribbon Chrysler in Sallisaw and other Chrysler dealerships in the Fort Smith metro area were not closed. Bob Carver Cars & Trucks in Mena, a community trying to recover from a recent devastating tornado, was on the closing list. The dealerships are to close no later than June 9.
Jungmeyer believes “astronomical” pent-up consumer demand will hit in 2-3 years, which will bode well for remaining car dealers. All that demand will be targeted at fewer dealerships, which will be a good thing for the dealers who can survive.
