Forty Under 40: Brent Massey
Brent Massey, 36, has always possessed a competitive nature.
A sports fanatic all his life, Massey’s enthusiasm runs from the outdoors to the work place. But the native of Neosho, Mo., said he doesn’t get too wrapped up in doing it all himself; he has learned success in the professional world requires balancing confidence and humility.
“One of the things that I try to share with our young engineers is a concept I call humble confidence,” Massey said. “Confidence in one’s own abilities but mixed with the humility that is needed for the whole team to be successful. You can’t be successful with just one person.”
The University of Missouri-Rolla graduate moved to Northwest Arkansas in 1995, went to work for CEI Engineering Inc. as a civil engineer and a CAD technician. As a division leader, he now oversees about 75 employees.
Massey attributes his climb up his industry’s ladder to his understanding of teamwork and his competitiveness.
Outside the office, Massey enjoys almost any outdoor activity, although he admits his two daughters have injected some pink and lace into his life.
Massey is a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Bentonville and has chaired the Meet the Pros ministry program since 2005.
