Matt Jones Helps Hannah House
Any time a River Valley organization can bring in Matt Jones, it usually turns into quite an event.
The former Arkansas Razorback and Van Buren native attended a fundraiser for Fort Smith’s Hannah House on March 23, which drew about 270 people to Golden Ventures for “An evening with a hometown hero.” About $7,000 was raised through a silent auction while Jones, now a receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, autographed everything from a baby’s pacifier to some kid’s forehead.
Of course, a Jones-signed Jaguars jersey and Razorbacks jersey were the top producers during the silent auction. Each went for $1,500.
“There were a couple of guys standing around watching the bids come in on the jerseys, just to make sure they would have the winning bid,” said Lydia Joseph, fundraising director for the Hannah House.
“Matt was more than willing to help us out. And he had a blast with those kids.”
Joseph said the exact amount raised from the event was unknown since ticket sales minus expenses had yet to be figured. Tickets were $50 for general seating and $65 for VIP seating.
Hannah House is a non-profit Christian-based organization, meaning United Way funds are not available. The house provides a residential facility and structured programs for pregnant or trouble women ages 12 to 29.
