13 Vie to Pucker Up and Kiss a Pig
Thirteen competitors hoping to raise the most money for the local American Diabetes Association will find out who wins the honor of “kissing the pig” at this year’s Hog Wild Gala. The gala will be 6-9 p.m. at the Fayetteville Town Center on Feb. 26.
Nearly $40,000 was raised at last year’s Hog Wild Gala in cash and in-kind contributions, said Ashley Spurlock, manager of the local office of the ADA. Spurlock said Feb. 5 that the agency has “pretty much doubled” what it did last year already and she’s hoping it will top $75,000 in cash and in-kind contributions by the end of the event.
Some of the items collected by participants for the gala’s silent auction include four club seats to the Ole Miss game next year; a mini Arkansas Razorback helmet that says “I’m staying” and is dated and signed by Houston Nutt; and a year’s supply of meat from Tyson Foods.
A pig pancreas was the first source of insulin for diabetes patients. For more information about the Hog Wild Gala, call 770-6402.
