Terri Arthur-Lane planned to earn a fashion-merchandising degree, but she ended up with a degree in environmental science. For the past 12 months, she’s worked hard to combine the two fields into one interesting clothing, home accent and gift shop just off the Fayetteville square.

Customers might not realize they’re in an environmentally friendly store until they read the labels or get to know how Arthur-Lane operates her business. In addition to the store’s merchandise, she buys only environmentally friendly supplies and actively supports environmental concerns in the community. Arthur-Lane is also developing her own line of products. She has a limited number of clothing items, throw pillows and purses she sells under the name “ecochic originals.”

Other brands at ecochic include Wildlife Works, active or casual wear offered by a company set up to raise money for conservation of endangered species; Paper, Denim and Cloth brand of jeans and other denim; and Sweetgrass, women’s clothing. The store also offers a complete collection of eco-friendly products for dogs and dog lovers.

“The main thread that runs through everything we do is environmental awareness,” she said. “We have a funky eclectic mix of clothing, not your typical ‘me too’ merchandise. We’re for women with an individual sense of style.”

Arthur-Lane is excited about her new Fayetteville business. She grew up in Fayetteville and missed the area when she went away to Ohio for school. She is a 1988 graduate of Fayetteville High School.

Ecochic has about 1,000 SF of showroom space. Arthur-Lane and her husband invested $75,000 to open the new shop.
