Bambi and Snoop

We were flipping past MTV recently and caught a glimpse of a rap artist wearing a retro-looking No. “19” San Diego Chargers football jersey. We recognized the number and 1960s-style uniform as the kind likely worn by former University of Arkansas Razorbacks halfback Lance “Bambi” Alworth, who spent most of his NFL career as a receiver for the Chargers.

Turns out the rapper sporting the “throwback” jersey was none other than Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Alworth is now owner of All Aboard Corp., a mini-storage development and management company in Solana Beach, Calif.

He played three years for the Hogs earning All-American honors in his final 1961 season. Alworth was a first-round draft pick in 1962 by the San Francisco 49ers and soon traded to San Diego (1962-70). He also played one year for the Dallas Cowboys (1972).
