The 2003 Northwest Arkansas Advertising Federation Addy awards banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the UARK Bowl in Fayetteville. The theme for this year’s event is “Off to the Races.” The event will include dinner, an awards presentation and an auction. For tickets, contact Julie Magnuson at the Mullikin Agency in Springdale, 750-0871.
Call for entries is from 3-7 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale. Radio morning show host Jon Williams will emcee the event.
Henning picture makes Time’s photos of the year
A photo by Marc Henning was featured in Time magazine’s first special issue on “The Best Photos of the Year,” which was on newsstands in late December and early January.
Henning, a photographer for The Morning News of Springdale, worked for The Daily Times of Farmington, N.M., when he took the picture of a forrest fire in that area. The photo was distributed by The Associated Press wire service in February. Time published the photo in a two-page spread in its year-end issue.
Henning said he shot the photo with a 17 mm ultrawide-angle lens.
“It was one of those situations where I was on my way to another assignment,” he said. “I saw the smoke coming up through the trees. I pre-visualized what I wanted to shoot. It was actually more dramatic than what I had pictured. I didn’t waste any time getting back to the office to develop my film and see what I had.”
Henning said his photo was also shown on ABC television news in conjunction with the Time magazine special issue. One look at his work, and it’s obvious why.
