Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to build a new 200,000-SF Supercenter on the southeast corner of Pleasant Grove Road and Interstate 540 in Rogers.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2004 and be completed in 2005 or 2006.

“We’re going to wait for it to continue to grow [before construction begins],” said Daphne Davis Moore, Wal-Mart’s community affairs manager.

Moore said she believes Wal-Mart plans to buy land at the intersection from Charles Reaves, but the company might have a lease agreement on the property. Wal-Mart usually requires about 20 acres for a Supercenter, she said.

Gary Combs, a Springdale developer, had announced that Wal-Mart would build a Supercenter on land he owes near Interstate 540 in Lowell, but that deal never materialized.

“We never announced plans for that other intersection,” Moore said. “In fact, when asked, we said we had no plans.”
