K & L Home Center in Springdale retails the Signature, Champion and Riverchase brand names of mobile homes. Kyle and Linda Davis own and operate the two-acre Springdale lot, which currently features 17 single and doublewide units. Customers also can order other models from books of floor plans in the 2,300-SF office.

Startup costs for the business were steep because the Davises purchased the homes. Each home retails for $30,000-$70,000, Linda Davis said, and the business averages about five sales per month right now. During the first year of business, the staff of four should sell about 60 homes, she said.

K & L Home Center also purchased two used diesel trucks to transport the homes to the sites. The Davises outsource setup and assembly of the lodgings. Linda Davis said the business will deliver homes to sites within 100 miles of Springdale. Customers from Neosho, Mo., and Fort Smith have bought homes from the lot.

Before moving to Northwest Arkansas and opening K & L Home Center, the Davises lived and worked in Fort Smith. Kyle Davis sold mobile homes, and Linda Davis sold radio advertising for four Fort Smith stations.
