The Boat Place LLC opened in Springdale just in time to reach all of the customers that will need a lake vessel this summer. Selling Generation III aluminum pontoon and fishing boats, The Boat Place stocks a variety of buoyant crafts — high performance bass boats and small johnboats are both available.
A larger variety of boats will filter through the shop because The Boat Place accepts consignments. About 20 vessels sit on the lot right now, and six of those are consignments that arrived within a week of each other.
Owners Clyde Backer, Auddie Vickers and a silent partner also sell Yamaha motors to outfit the boats. The Boat Place also finances the products and offers some trading. Backer and Vickers worked together at another marine shop, and they each have management experience in sales and finance.
“We’re just an up-and-coming new place,” Backer said. “The big boys better watch out.”
Prices for the boats vary widely. Backer said a customer could find a used boat for about $1,000, and several of the newest models sell for more than $20,000.
