Stadium Expansion Tops List
The expansion of Reynolds Razorback Stadium is such a big project that it appears twice in the top four slots of the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s list of largest commercial projects for 2000.
The east and south grandstand expansion and renovation, done by Beers Construction of Atlanta, is the largest single project by one company in the area. The 304,000-SF project includes expanding the stadium from a 51,000-seat capacity to a more Southeastern Conference-like 72,000.
The original estimated value of the Beers project was $51.8 million, though that figure has been rumored to have grown much higher.
Also, Kinco Inc. Constructors of Springdale is handling the renovations for the west grandstands, including a new press box for Razorback Stadium. The project is valued at $6.6 million. Again, that figure is likely to increase before the work is completed.
Nabholz Construction Corp. of Rogers continues to be the largest commercial contractor in Northwest Arkansas with $80.8 million is 2000 revenue, a 17.1 percent increase from its leading figure of 1999.
The largest project for Nabholz of Rogers in 2000 was the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Rogers, a $7 million, 49,000-SF facility.
Nabholz actually came in at No. 2 on our list of largest projects, but it is the company’s Little Rock office that’s building the $7.6 million, 102,000-SF Pat & Willard Walker Student Center and dormitory at John Brown University in Siloam Springs.
Fayetteville-based McClinton-Anchor Co., a division of APAC-Arkansas Inc., ranked second in total revenue with $54.9 million, a 24.2 percent increase. While we tried listing total construction companies only, McClinton-Anchor qualified with its civil projects such as its construction of the $2.3 million Illinois River bridge on Arkansas Highway 62 in Prairie Grove for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
Springdale companies blanketed our list of commercial contractors, including four of the six companies that divulged their 2000 revenue — Oakridge Builders Inc., Buildings Inc., Kinco and Baldwin & Shell Construction Co.
