Kimo Sihapanya of Springdale plans to open A Taste of Thai at 31 E. Center St. in Fayetteville by April 1. The building previously housed Tangos.

Sihapanya grew up in Thailand and has been in the United States for the past 16 years. He operated Thai Cafe in Redding, Calif., and Thai Cuisine in Salem, Ore., before moving to Springdale last year.

Sihapanya has applied for a beer and wine permit and is waiting for it before opening his restaurant.

The restaurant will have 1,500 SF of space for non-smoking diners and a 750-SF room across the hall for smokers.

Sihapanya said his restaurant will be upscale in food and service but moderate in price, with lunch entrees ranging from $5.25 to $6.50 and dinner entrees ranging from $6.50 to $11.

Sihapanya said the restaurant will feature “evil jungle prince” food. The type of food includes items that were found in the jungle and were popular with the prince of Thailand.

But Sihapanya said the chickens he will be using will have to come from local poultry companies like Tyson Foods Inc. and George’s Inc. instead of the jungle.

Among the dishes he’ll be serving are satay chicken, barbecue chicken and green papaya salad.
