Hot air sparked the idea for Jarrett and Kelley Mifflin’s new business. While the neighborhood children jumped on an inflatable castle during a birthday party for the Mifflin’s youngest daughter, the couple realized a potential for business.

“The kids really enjoy that sort of thing, and we wanted to experiment with our own business,” Jarrett Mifflin says.

Birthday parties and company picnics are examples of events the Mifflins hope to cater.

Delivering the jump and picking it up after the event, the Mifflins leave the castle at the party. To make the jump rentals run smoothly, the Mifflins set up a motor to inflate and maintain the balloon’s air pressure while kids, and some adults, bounce within the balloon walls. Renters of the jump are responsible for following a list of rules and regulations for the jump, and the Mifflins review the list with the renters before the party begins.

Rental fees for the jump vary according to the number of people expected to play during the party. An affair with lots of children costs more than a smaller private party, Mifflin says. But a regular rental for three hours is $100.
