?Blue-eyed Bats? Made D-G Story Readable
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter Robert J. Smith made a potentially dry story readable by referring to “blue-eyed bats and bald eagles” in the first paragraph.
The story, which was published Jan. 26 on Page 1, was about a meeting of the Washington County Quorum Court the previous night.
The D-G story began: “Washington County’s Planning Board shouldn’t be thinking about the habitats of blue-eyed bats and bald eagles when it makes decisions about people’s land, members of the Quorum Court said Monday.”
It was much more readable than another newspaper’s story from the same meeting.
