Well, it Used to Look Like That
The Danbury Mint, purveyors of plates and dolls memorializing everyone from Shirley Temple to Tom Selleck, is trying to sell a $69 replica of Razorback Stadium.
The problem is, the stadium won’t look like the replica for long. With renovation under way, Razorback Stadium will by renamed Reynolds Stadium and will have an extra 23,000 seats by fall, making the stadium (which now has 50,000 seats) look considerably different, particularly in the south end zone.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, an advertising flier included with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette encouraged Razorbacks fans to fill out a “reserve application” for the “extraordinary re-creation, meticulously detailed and skillfully hand painted.”
The replica is 11 and one-half inches long by 10 and one-fourth inches wide.
“This stunning replica will be admired by all who see it displayed in your home or office,” the ad states.
Perhaps as a reminder of how things used to be.
We called the Danbury Mint in Norwalk, Conn., to ask them if they were aware of the renovation, but before we could ask, we were quickly informed that the Danbury Mint doesn’t make comments to the press.
We suspect they’ll really be confused if they hear some of the Little Rock games have been moved to Reynolds Stadium.
