Now, is That Really Front-page News?
In its effort to be a statewide newspaper and a Northwest Arkansas newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has lumped some unlikely stories on Page 1.
On Jan. 19, a story about President Clinton’s gun control plan ran above the fold on the front page next to a story with the headline “Burning outdoors requires consent.”
The story said Fayetteville residents now have to get a permit before any open burning can take place. It wasn’t the kind of story we’re used to seeing on the front page of a state newspaper.
