Business Matters Hires Editor
Business Matters, the weekly business section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has hired a new editor to oversee the section.
Chris Sheffield started his new job Jan. 10. Sheffield received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Memphis State University in 1990. He worked briefly at the Forrest City Times-Herald before spending five years at the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, a weekly newspaper in Tupelo. At the Daily Journal, Sheffield worked with John Cummins, who is now the D-G’s Northwest Arkansas business editor.
Sheffield then worked for two years in the public relations office at the University of Mississippi, one year as the north Mississippi bureau for the Mississippi Business Journal and two years in communications and public relations for the Appalachian Regional Commission of the Mississippi Department of Economic Development.
Sheffield replaces Richard Bedard, who left in October for a job with the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Sheffield is the fourth person to hold the top editor position at Business Matters since the section’s inception three years ago.
