UA Hits Home Run
The University of Arkansas made at least $78,781 in May as host of its first NCAA Baseball Tournament regional. The three-day event at Baum Stadium drew 21,743 spectators and grossed $282,826 before the NCAA took its $123,284 cut.
The rest of the gross revenue paid for operating expenses ($41,441), concessions supplies from Swanson Corp. ($25,065), novelty licensing management from Team Sports/Follett Inc. ($12,681) and game programs printed by Host Communications ($1,574).
The Hogs’ profit includes money from corporate sponsorships ($39,601), ticket sales ($21,218), concessions ($15,960), novelty sales ($1,103), ticket handling fees ($372), program sales ($361) and radio fees ($166).
Arkansas, which finished 42-23 and ranked No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball, averaged 2,496 in attendance this season including a school record 5,102 for its May 1 victory over Mississippi State University.
The UA presold around 1,000 tournament passes at $45 each.
