Although larger companies often offer their employees insurance benefits, many small private businesses cannot afford the expense. Now, these smaller businesses have another insurance option. Marilyn Stroud offers supplemental insurance to businesses through her independent affiliation with the Life Insurance Company of Alabama.

If the company employs a minimum of three people, the business is eligible for receiving a group rate on disability, health and accident insurance. Each plan can be added to a current policy or stand alone.

Stroud plans to advertise the business soon, but she says she will not depend on it heavily.

“This is really more effective to meet face to face,” Stroud says.

The flexibility of working a business and building her own schedule appealed to Stroud. A background in sales and marketing led Stroud to insurance, and the flexible schedule of running this type of business independently allows Stroud to pursue her master’s degree in business administration.

“Continuing my education will definitely help me grow,” Stroud says.
