Nancy Clarke, marketing services coordinator for Fiskars Inc. of Madison, Wis., says it’s business as usual at Syroco Arkansas Inc. following her company’s May 1, $70 million purchase of the plastic furniture manufacturer’s parent company, Syroco Inc. of Baldwinsville, N.Y.

The purchase included Syroco’s manufacturing and distributing facilities in New York, Corona, Calif., and Siloam Springs. Syroco, which bills itself as the market leader in outdoor, casual furniture, has operated its Siloam Springs facility for about 10 years and, according to estimates by the city’s Chamber of Commerce, employs around 200 people.

Clarke says Fiskars acquired Syroco to strengthen its position in the lawn and garden furniture and equipment market. Rick Lane, Syroco’s vice-president of western operations, says further details of the sale are not being disclosed.

Fiskars, publicly traded in Finland, is a multi-divisional, multi-national consumer products company that markets numerous brand names in the United States.

Jim Morley, Fiskars vice-president of business development, did not return repeated phone calls from the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal.
