To many people in Fayetteville, Bruce Dunn is Mister Guy.

Dunn, 35, has been with the specialty clothing store since graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1986 with a degree in finance and banking. The store opened on Block Street, just off the downtown square, in 1981.

Dunn, a native of Hampton (Calhoun County), worked at Mister Guy for two years while pursuing his degree. He stayed on after college and became a part owner in 1988.

In 1993, the Mister Guy chain of 15 stores was dissolved. Dunn decided to keep the Fayetteville store and purchased the rights to continue using the Mister Guy name at the location.

With the purchase, Dunn says he decided to make the store a little less collegiate and aim more for the over-25 age group. Mister Guy sells clothing for both men and women.

Dunn says customer service and business integrity have kept his business successful.

“Specialty stores don’t have an abundance of customers,” Dunn says, “so you have to cater to their needs. The customer is always right.”

Dunn led the committee to bring the Town Center to downtown Fayetteville. He is also past president of Fayetteville’s Northside Rotary Club, a director of Children’s House and a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
