D-G Hiring for NW Paper

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is apparently hiring staffers for a zoned edition of the newspaper for Northwest Arkansas.

Although officials at the paper didn’t return our telephone calls, the D-G has hired several journalists to work in Little Rock as copy editors on what will be a Northwest Arkansas edition of the paper.

Two employees confirmed that they were hired specifically for work on the Northwest edition and that others were being hired for editing and layout. The copy and pages will flow back and forth from Little Rock to Springdale through the paper’s computer system.

The D-G has at least 26 people working out of its Springdale office, where the paper produces a weekly Business Matters insert and covers news and sports.

As of May 28, the D-G hadn’t formally announced its plans for the zoned edition.
