Central United Methodist Church in Rogers has received a $500,000 mortgage from Federal Savings Bank of Rogers to help finance construction of a new church building at 2535 W. New Hope Road.

The mortgage was issued May 30 and was signed for the church by Jack Whitney, chairman of the church’s board of trustees, and Gale Larson, secretary of the board. The loan is due October 1.

The 65,000-SF building is about 85 percent complete and is costing about $4.5 million to build. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of the summer.

The church’s old building at 307 W. Elm Street in Rogers is being bought by First United Methodist Church of Rogers for $850,000 cash. First United also plans to do about $500,000 in renovations to the historic building, which was built in 1905.

Currently, both churches are sharing the building. First United has made a down payment on the building and is renting space from Central United until the church finishes its new building.
