Altes’ campaign funds triple that of Dallas; Altes returns contribution

If J.R. Dallas wins Tuesday’s (May 18) GOP primary for Arkansas House District 63 seat he will have defeated a legislative veteran who raised more than three times in campaign contributions.

Sen. Denny Altes, who is term limited in the Arkansas Senate District 13 seat, has raised $44,178 according to his May 11 pre-election report. (However, The City Wire has been unable to reconcile Altes’ past reports with his most recent report. The City Wire shows Altes has collected more than $46,200 in contributions.) The Altes report shows $35,420 in expenditures and an $8,737 balance as of May 11.

Altes’ report also shows a $2,000 contribution return to Mike Carter posted April 30. Coincidentally, The City Wire reported April 30 a potential contribution violation with Carter contributing $4,000 to Altes’ primary campaign. The individual limit per election is $2,000.

More than half (50.5%) of Altes contributions come from individuals, PACs and groups outside the Fort Smith area. Also, Altes geared up the fundraising effort  in April, receiving $9,975 between April 1 and May 11.

Dallas, the former commander of the 188th Fighter Wing in Fort Smith, has raised $10,525 in contributions, according to his May 7 pre-election report. (The City Wire also was unable to reconcile previous Dallas reports. The City Wire shows Dallas has raised $14,425.) The report also shows that Dallas loaned his campaign $15,000, spent $21,720 and ended the reporting period with a $3,804 balance.

The expenditures for Dallas include $10,000 in personal loan repayments.

None of Dallas’ contributions come from political action groups. The $1,050 he collected from outside parties comes from friends and family.
