It's right around the corner and come Memorial Day weekend it's expected that more than a quarter million people will pour into downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock for Riverfest and its 35th anniversary.

That's a lot of people and a lot of trash.

This year, event organizers have a plan that will help the big festival stay “clean and green” and make a wish come true.

Riverfest Recycles is an educational component of the big festival. In recent years, Riverfest has used its recycling tent to teach festival goer about environmental responsibility.

There have been giveaways for recyclers

ranging from T-shirts to iPods to a car.

In 2012, all of the proceeds from recycled cans found on the ground at Riverfest will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation thanks to help from Little Rock-based Tenenbaum Recycling.

“All the money this year collected from the aluminum on site later this summer will be put towards granting a wish through the make a wish program,” says executive director DeAnna Korte. “It's another way for Riverfest to give back and for our festival goers to have a part in that wish.”
