Dancing, music and singing highlight the recognition of art in the community

Three outstanding individuals and one business was honored for their contributions to the visual and performing arts at the Mayor’s honors to the Visual and Performing Arts event held Tuesday at the Arkansas Best Corporation Center For the Performing Arts.

The evening awards program featured performances from nine performing arts organizations who also represent the mayor’s art council. Following every two performances, awards were presented to each winner. The recipients are: painter/artist Lois Hulse, writer Anita Paddock, The Times Record and Bob Stevenson II, for Drama.

Also recognized in the program were six school-age individuals who received Young Artists’ Achievement Awards the previous day, Monday. They are: James Brown, Kaitlyn Hines, Tyler Huntington, Alyssa Grimsley, Will Hough and Meredith Rideout.

The nominations for the awards come from citizens and peers of the artists as well as teachers in the case of the young artists awards said Fort Smith Mayor Ray Baker who emceed the event. The winners were selected by consensus from members of the mayor’s art council, he added.
