Meiji Plans Relocation to Corner Spot at Signature Plaza

Have you heard Meiji Japanese Cuisine in Fayetteville is moving two doors down in the Signature Plaza retail center, to a spot vacated last September by Cantina?

The upscale taqueria from local restaurateur Scott Bowman (Theo’s, East Side Grill, Deluxe Burger) was open only seven months, and it was preceded by a string of other restaurant concepts that only lasted a short time in the spot.

You might be quick to forecast a similar fate for Meiji, especially if you’re superstitious. Some venues seem unable to make a restaurant concept stick.

However, chef/owner Darwin Beyer (also owner of San Lio on Dickson) has gained a local following with his unique take on sushi, featuring fresh, flown-in fish and local produce.

Meiji has done well for about six years in its current location, and Whispers predicts it can break the cycle of closures in the new spot, which offers a larger dining room and patio.

The restaurant can sidestep one drawback of relocating, and that’s confusion and frustration from its current customers.

As Meiji will still be located at the corner of Joyce Boulevard and Crossover Road, its customers will know where to find it.
