Closings, Openings Near the Downtown Bentonville Square
The 3rd Street Eatery and Bakery, at 208 N.E. Third St. in downtown Bentonville, directly across the street from the downtown entrance to the Crystal Bridges Museum Trail, closed in early January, due to health issues that chef/owner George Flynn has had to address.
The eatery opened in a renovated cottage last May with a breakfast and lunch menu, and started dinner service in the fall.
Amber Stone, who serves as the business manager for all of Flynn’s businesses — he also runs a construction/remodeling/property rental venture — says the restaurant was a passion project for Flynn.
“George feels that if he can’t live his passion, then it’s time to step aside to allow someone else to find their passion in the space,” she explained. Stone says the building is either for sale or for lease.
In other downtown Bentonville restaurant news, the long-awaited reopening of the newly relocated Pressroom took place on Jan. 18. In its first iteration, on Central Avenue just a short walk from the downtown Bentonville square, the eatery had become a cozy neighborhood hub.
Still a short walk from the square in the new Midtown Shopping Center at 100 N.W. Second St., the new version of the Pressroom, owned by boutique hospitality group RopeSwing, adds another dinner destination to the city’s downtown area.
In addition, the Foxhole Public House, a bar/café opened Jan. 22 on the first floor of the Thrive Building at 401 S.W. A St..
And the owners of Oven & Tap, a farm-to-table eatery that opened last May at 215 S. Main St. in Bentonville, have added lunch to the restaurant’s service lineup. The lunch menu is now available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. On the weekends, the restaurant is open during the day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday for brunch.
