Ozark Mountain Poultry Products Now American Humane Certified
Ozark Mountain Poultry in Rogers has earned certification from the American Humane Association after meeting high standards of farm animal welfare, according to a press release from AHA.
The AHA certification and auditing program uses more than 200 science-based standards that require adequate space for the animals, good air quality, heat and lighting, humane treatment and the ability for animals to express natural behaviors of their kind.
OMP’s consumer brand Forrester Farmer’s Market and restaurant-use poultry products, of which it puts out about 4 million collective pounds per week, are now American Humane Certified.
“We take great care in how we raise and process our chickens, and we think it makes a big difference in the taste and overall quality of our products,” Ed Fryar, president of parent company OMP Foods, said in the press release. “We feel that becoming American Humane Certified is the best way to communicate our commitment to humanely raising birds to our customers and consumers.”
Founded in 1877, the American Humane Association is the country’s first national humane organization, according to the release.
