Whispers was surprised to find out that a $37,414 IRS tax lien had been filed against Stegen Athletic Club LLC, which operates the Fayetteville Athletic Club at 2920 E. Zion Road.

The unpaid taxes, according to a notice of federal lien filed in Washington County last month, are from June and December 2013.

Whispers also heard that the directors of personal training, membership and the aquatics center recently left. Whispers made two phone calls to owner Kevin Stegen but those phone calls were not returned.

According to Washington County real estate records, Stegen and his Stegen Enterprises LLC bought the property in November 2012 for $5.6 million.

Fayetteville attorney Tom Stockland, who represents the athletic club, concedes mistakes were made and that the tax, perhaps even more than the $37,414 listed in the file, is owed. He also said the athletic club will pay the bill by the spring.
