Company Man of Almost Four Decades, Roy Slagle Retires From ABF Freight

ABF Freight System Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fort Smith-based transportation holding company ArcBest Corp., announced Oct. 16 that Roy Slagle has retired as president and CEO.

Slagle, who was became president in January 2012, spent 37 years with the company, rising through the ranks after beginning his career in field operations in Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to a company news release.

Slagle’s replacement is Tim Thorne, vice president of linehaul operations for ABF Freight. Thorne has spent the last 24 years with the company after serving as a captain in the U.S. Army.
