Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville has closed on a $2.4 million land purchase in Springdale where the college will build its Washington County Instructional Center.

The site is just west of Arvest Ballpark on Watkins Avenue. NWACC bought 20 acres of a 39.2-acre tract owned by Springdale businessman Philip Taldo, financed by the issuance of tuition revenue bonds. The maturity date is Oct. 1, 2034.

Taldo, according to county records, acquired the land in October 2001 for $315,000.

In a news release, NWACC president Evelyn Jorgenson said the college will launch a fundraising campaign to help finance construction of the three-story facility. Architectural designs will be complete in the coming months, according to the release.

Nearly 40 percent of NWACC’s 8,164 students enrolled in credit classes have a Washington County address.

NWACC currently offers classes in leased space at Farmington High School, as well as two sites in Springdale — The Jones Center at 922 E. Emma Ave. and a building at 693 White Road. That property, according to county records, is owned by William R. McCullough.
