Hugg & Hall Subsidiary Manufacturing Tornado Shelters out of Shipping Containers
Little Rock-based Hugg & Hall Mobile Storage has started a new wholly owned subsidiary called Stormbox to manufacture prefabricated tornado shelters.
The new business was recently recognized by the National Storm Shelter Association, a first for an Arkansas company. Regarded as the premiere association for providers of tornado shelters that meet the criteria set forth by FEMA and the International Code Council, recognition by the NSSA is considered a great achievement.
“The design must be provided by an engineering professional who identifies that standards are met, then the NSSA must approve it through a third-party evaluator who reviews the design and analysis,” said Hugg & Hall president Jim Hugg. “The shelter must then pass testing for debris impact and pressure at the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center located at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.”
The shelters, made from shipping containers, are ideal for use by schools, nursing homes, cities and industrial employers, Hugg said.
