Walmart VP David Tovar Leaving Company

David Tovar, vice president of corporate communications at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., announced in an email to media on Friday that he is leaving the company, effective Sept. 30.

Tovar did not immediately respond to requests for more information, but Brooke Buchanon, Walmart senior director of corporate communications, said Tovar was “just ready to move on to his next adventure.”

Tovar wrote in the email that he is unsure of his next move, but that he hopes he will be able to “share some news with you soon.”

“I have loved every second of every minute I’ve been with the company and I don’t have enough room in this email to give justice to the life-changing experience of working for the world’s largest retailer,” Tovar wrote.

As a member of the leadership for Walmart U.S., he is the direct adviser to executives on media issues, according to his bio on the website for the Global PR Summit 2013, for which he was a speaker.

“I leave knowing that Walmart is a wonderful company, truly committed to using its size and scale to make the world a better place for its associates and customers. I am a better person and a better professional as a result of my time at Walmart and I am eternally grateful for all of the wonderful people I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from,” he wrote.  

Tovar was promoted to the position of vice president of communications in November, and has worked with Walmart about eight years.

Before that, he was director of corporate and government affairs for Kraft Foods Inc. in Northfield, Illinois, and district director of state government affairs of Altria Corporate Services Inc. in Sacramento, the parent company of Kraft and Philip Morris.
