The Bank of Gravett has hired James Smith as its new market president and chief lending officer. His first day was June 23.

Smith resigned in December as Northwest Arkansas market manager of Springfield, Missouri-based Great Southern Bank.

The bank, which has between 45 and 50 employees, has branch offices in Gravette, Hiwasse and Centerton and had total assets of $124.7 million as of March 31, a 30-percent decrease from March 2009. It had a 0.74-percent return on assets.

Smith, also recently appointed to the Bentonville City Council, will work from the Centerton branch and report to Rick Pollries, the bank’s CEO and CFO.

Smith replaced the deceased Jim Sloan. Sloan went to work for the bank in 2007 and was named market president in October 2012.

Smith is a past vice chairman of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and was instrumental in establishing the area’s first YMCA — the NWA Mercy Family YMCA in Rogers — in 2011.
