Scientists Looking To Build Hub

Local scientists are wanting to create a Midwest biotechnology hub here in Northwest Arkansas, and the first step they’ll take is June 24 at 5 p.m. when members of Bio+Nano+Arkansas convene for a networking event at the NOW Diagnostics facility in Springdale.

Known as BNA, the group wants to do more than connect people in the sciences industry. Members of BNA ultimately want to promote the state tax incentives and other subsidies that make it possible for science-based companies to get off the ground and in the market.

Formed by Ellen Brune, founder of Boston Mountain Biotech LLC, and Beverly Graham, of Pel-Freez Biologics LLC, among others, BNA is expected to attract people from as far away as Little Rock, and to also attract people from an assortment of fields including law and graphic design. Eight companies have already joined BNA.

“Our goal is to support Bio+Nano+Arkansas members with a networking structure that will create relationships for commercial collaborations and public-private collaborations,” Graham said in a press release. “This is a chance to meet neighbors who invent and develop technology as well as those who commercialize technology in Arkansas and in neighboring states.”
