Executive Farewell

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. executive Henry Jordan announced his retirement recently, after 28 years with the company. Jordan’s final day as senior vice president of the Eastern seaboard division, overseeing Walmart U.S. operations in six states, was Feb. 14.

Jordan, currently in North Carolina, joined Walmart as a part-time associate in 1985 but advanced through the operations division and worked in 17 states.

One of them, of course, was Arkansas. Jordan was a home office executive in Bentonville about a decade ago and was also a board member from 2001 to 2004 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas.

Jordan, it’s worth noting, was at one time director of Walmart Neighborhood Markets and later led the opening of the first Walmart Supercenters in California and Washington, D.C. — no small task in either locale.
