The Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission is taking bids for the southernmost leg of the Razorback Regional Greenway, through Springdale from Lake Fayetteville to Meadow Street.

Bids will be opened Dec. 10. Construction is expected to be finished on the Meadow Street leg by early summer, and the entirety of the Springdale sections by the end of 2014, said John McLarty, the commission’s transportation study director. The section between Lake Springdale to Goad Springs Road is already under construction, while the section from Meadow Street to Lake Springdale will go out for bid early next year.

“This is an opportunity to revitalize that area,” said Springdale director of planning and community development Patsy Christie, referring to the trail’s path through the heart of downtown Springdale.

“This is exciting,” Christie said. “It’s unique and it’s great for all of Northwest Arkansas.”

The greenway is a 36-mile bike and pedestrian trail from north Bentonville to south Fayetteville.
