Siloam Springs radio station KLRC-FM 90.9, a nonprofit station owned by John Brown University, was named Religious Station of the Year at the 2013 National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Radio Awards.

Awards were announced in September. Named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, the Marconi Awards have been given by the NAB since 1989.

KLRC, a member-supported station with a contemporary Christian format, was launched in August 1983 as a 100-watt, campus-only station.

It increased its signal power to 100,000 watts in February and now has a reach of more than 500,000 listeners throughout Northwest Arkansas, northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri.

“We have been blessed with amazing listeners, the best team I could ask for and ownership through John Brown University that supports us in so many ways,” Sean Sawatzky, KLRC’s general manager, said in a news release.
