New Kum & Go Site in Springdale Sells for $1.3M

You may remember our news item in June letting you know that c-store chain Kum & Go was set to develop a sixth Springdale location at 509 S. Thompson St. at the corner of Maple Avenue.

The half-acre plot was sold to Kum & Go by Mathews Investments LLC of Springdale. The price? $1.3 million.

We note the following covenant included in the ownership deed:

“In addition, the above described property shall be prohibited from being used for a restaurant or for food service purposes, drive-in, drive-thru, or walk-up eatery/drinking facility serving any time (sic) of nationally branded food or drink of any type, including, but not limited to: Arby’s, Burger Chef, Burger King, Subway, KFC, Chik-Fil-A, Church’s Chicken, Carl’s Jr., Del Taco, Dominos, In and Out Burgers, Jack-N-The-Box, Little Cesar’s (sic), Numero Uno, Pizza Hut, Rally’s, Shakey’s, Sonic, Taco Bell, Wendy’s or White Castle.”

Mathews Investments is, by the way, led by brothers Bill and Walter Mathews, who own and operate more than 30 McDonald’s restaurant locations across Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Whispers also hears the convenience store chain is in the early stages of acquiring multiple properties at the northwest corner of East Main Street (Highway 62) and Broyles Street in Farmington

The site is currently occupied by another gas station and c-store, Farmington One Stop.

We’re told groundbreaking to build a new store wouldn’t be until early 2014. 

Kum & Go, headquartered in Iowa, currently has more than 400 stores in 11 states. According to its website, the company has 38 stores in Arkansas, 15 in Benton and Washington counties alone.

It also has a planned development at the corner of Huntsville and Happy Hollow roads in Fayetteville, site of the former Tyson Mexican Original factory.
