NanoMech Secures Three Patents
Springdale-based NanoMech Inc. has received three patents to help position the company’s nGlide Division as a leader in the lubricant’s additives and fully-formulated lubricants industry.
NanoMech has exclusive rights to the patents and the company has paid technology transfer royalties to the University of Arkansas, where the fundamental science under the direction of Dr. Ajay P. Malshe led to this discovery.
Malshe is the company’s founder and chief technology officer.
“We are incredibly excited about this news that has been years in the making,” Jim Phillips, chairman and CEO of NanoMech, said in a news release. “These newly-patented technologies represent advancements that are greater than the leap from rotary dial phones to smart phones. The transformative nature of these developments in the industrial lubricants industry will result in the improvement in the two most important things in manufacturing — the protection and performance of machinery.”
The patents will help customers solve the most expensive and challenging issues by providing features including anti-wear, anti-friction, anti-corrosion, extreme load and extreme pressure performance, while allowing the companies to provide advanced solutions in harsh operating conditions, according to the release.
“While the complex technology and science behind these patents has been developed for commercialization by NanoMech’s world leading scientists, using advanced principles such as open architecture, macromolecular delivery and convergent assembly, it all boils down to this,” Malshe said. “The nGlide technology is now revolutionizing the manufacturing, transportation and heavy machinery industries by creating longer lasting, higher performing lubricants, synthetic and non-synthetic greases and oils. Extending the life of the hydrocarbon [fossil fuel] supply chain leads to a more sustainable future, a cleaner environment and increased energy efficiencies.”
NanoMech has also received support from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research and the Department of Energy on the development of these technologies.
The industry is a $100 billion market that serves as the backbone to all industries that use heavy machinery including manufacturing, farming, gas and oil exploration, aerospace, racing, marine, national defense and transportation.
NanoMech, founded in 2002, creates advanced engineering materials through nano-engineered and nano-manufactured product development.
Earlier this year, the NanoBusiness Commercialization Association awarded NanoMech its Top Emerging Nano Innovator Award for the second year in a row.
